A computer repair shop can retrieve or do a data recovery for you, but you need to protect your files and data. What do you do if your computer crashes, or your hard disk dies? Are all your important files and documents totally lost?

Not so if you always find time and exert effort to back up your key files and data on a regular basis. The easiest way to do this is by connecting an external hard disk drive to your computer. Get a big enough external hard disk drive (200GB or larger), and you can copy your entire hard disk to that new external drive provided it has larger capacity. Then, if your system ever crashes, you can restore your backed-up files from the external drive to your computer’s system unit.

External hard drives can be purchased for as little as $120 and are easy to connect via either USB or FireWire. You can also use the proprietary backup software that comes with most external hard drives, or use Vista’s Windows Backup utility. Whichever program you use, you should back up your data at least weekly, if not daily. That way you won’t lose much fresh data if the worst happens.

Computer repairs will definitely be able to recover your lost file and data but it will be very costly, recovering your lost data is a highly specialized service, people think its just one of those normal computer repairs, but it requires specialised skills and specialised equipment.

It is a bit surprising when ASUS dropped off this little Eee Box for this category. Its not going to trouble the frontrunners in this group for performance, although don’t underestimate this impressive little Personal Computer. Its basically the desktop version of the Eee PC notebook, but with features for desktop users. The 80GB hard drive gives you some decent space and Windows XP Home gives you quite reasonable performance and plenty of functionality. The unit has no optical drive, but with four USB 2.0 ports, a Secure Digital and Memory Stick card reader, built in Wi-Fi and wired networking, it’s got all the features you need for a kid’s computer or a second small business Personal Computer. It’s based around Intel’s Atom N270 processor clocking in at 1.6Ghz with 1GB of memory. This isn’t the PC you want if you’re thinking about video editing, but it’s actually not too bad at image editing, with User Bench Image scores not the worst we’ve seen. The most impressive feature is its compact, vertical design - small enough to fit on any desk. It can even be mounted on the back of most LCD monitors, although the bundle stand makes a better option for desktop placement. Just add your own mouse, keyboard and monitor, and you’re away. I recommend a company called super computer services located at parramatta if you want help regarding installation or upgrade for home or office use.

Synaptics announced today that its ClearPad solution is driving the interactive touchscreen in NTT DOCOMO’s new SH906i clamshell handset. Sharp SH906i is the first ClearPad-enabled touchscreen mobile phone in Japan’s mobile handset market.

The SH906i uses Synaptics’ ClearPad technology to enable finger-input character recognition capabilities for Japanese character entry. The combination of the SH906i character recognition software and Synaptics’ ClearPad solution improves usability for regions with more complex alphabets. Capacitive sensing-enabled text entry allows the user to access and control any number of applications and menus on a handheld device in an efficient and intuitive manner. Synaptics’ ClearPad sensors recognize a variety of gesture input for an effortless user interface. OEMs can customize their device user interfaces using Synaptics’ growing gesture library, which includes gestures such as flick and pinch. The SH906i, for example, uses flick to flip though channels and adjust volume on its mobile-television application.

The ClearPad solution is part of Synaptics’ growing ClearTouch product portfolio. Patented ClearPad technology builds on the capacitive touch sensing technology used in more than 400 million TouchPad devices.

The car will feature a 150-kilowatt motor (about 201 horsepower) producing 479 ft-pounds of torque, and its lithium-ion battery will have a range of 155 to 186 miles, according to Auto Motor und Sport magazine. RUF claims the car will have a top speed of 125 mph. Although the RUF EV would offer less 48 fewer ponies than the Tesla, it would have significantly more torque.

No word on what the electric Cayman will look like, but it’s a safe bet RUF will base it on the 3400 K (pictured). That super-Cayman produces 400 horsepower and 324 ft-pounds of torque and does 0 to 62 mph in 4.4 seconds. With more torque on tap, the electric version might shave a few ticks off that time and could even beat the Tesla’s 0-to-60 sprint of 4.0 seconds.
